Grant Information

Year of Grant2024
Description of project funded by grant:

We are grateful for the support of the Prichard Family Foundation for gifting $18,000 to the Perkins School of Theology to fund two internships for Baptist House of Studies students during the 2024-25 academic year.

Kenna Curry is in an internship at the Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas. She will continue her internship in the spring semester and intends to graduate in May 2025. She commented:

“Thank you so much for enabling me to land the internship that was right for me. Without the funds the church would have been unable to support me as an intern. With my internship I have already helped build more engagement, specifically I have started a young adult group, and I am co-leading a Bible study. I am very grateful for everything you have done for me.”

Lily White is doing an internship with the Alliance of Baptists in Raleigh, North Carolina. She will continue in that internship in the spring semester and intends to graduate in May 2025. She shared:

“My internship is with the Alliance of Baptists, a non-profit organization that works to dismantle systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, and abusive power. My internship experience has been valuable to me because I can see how my work is directly and positively impacting Baptist ministers and laypersons. Although there is an element of "sowing today what will be harvested tomorrow," many aspects of my work offer hope and provide resources to the congregations who need these tools today. This internship opportunity would not be available were it not for the Prichard Family Foundation’s generous gift. Thank you!”

The expenditure for the fall semester from Prichard funds was $10,400, with all funding going toward intern stipends. The remaining $7,600 will be spent for the spring internships, and Perkins will supplement the funding with $2,800 to complete the agreements with those organizations.

Internships are an essential part of the learning environment for people entering the ministry. It affords students opportunities to be engaged in practical situations under the supervision of experienced mentors. Thank you to the Prichard Family Foundation for the ability to expand opportunities for students in the Baptist House of Studies program.
